Monday 28th March
Today, the river was running at 6″ down from 3′ 3″ yesterday. The water temperature was 43f.
Mrs E Ogilvy-Wedderburn caught a salmon in the Morail weighing 9lb on a Willie Gunn variant then went on to catch a second from Gardners run weighing about 8lb on the same fly. Another fish was lost in Gruinards run.
As far as we know there has been 5 salmon off the other beats to add to the one caught at Braelangwell a fortnight ago.

The Mackenzie Graphene 14ft rod
The new Mackenzie FX1 Graphene rod is getting a good workout at Braelangwell this week. Finlay had a shot of it yesterday and says it’s a fantastic rod. The power in it is phenomenal, it threw a line right across the Morail with more to give.

First salmon
Braelangwell’s first salmon of the season has been caught this morning in the Washerwoman. It weighed 8lb and was caught by Mr Gerald Franklin. Unsurprisingly, it was caught on a cascade as it is the only fly he uses. The water is running at minus 3, the water temperature is 41.5f

First day with tenants.
This morning we started with 0 on the gauge, the water temperature was 41f. We covered all the likely spots down to the Boat pool but no sign of a springer. In the afternoon we had bright sunshine and a bit of an East wind to contend with. Apart from a brown trout from the Washerwoman nothing else was caught.

Tuesday 8th March
Well the water temperature is up to 38.1, but we really need some rain (which according to the Met is due tonight).

Monday 7th March
Stunning day, you could be mistaken for thinking it’s the start of Spring. Water temperature 37.5 and running at just below 0! But, there’s a front coming in that will hopefully bring some warmer weather and rain.

February round-up
In the January round-up I was saying how we had missed the worst of the flooding, however, not long into February we had a spate of around 10ft. Thankfully, it did very little damage other than moved some shingle about. Not long after the spate the weather turned cold and dry.
The first fish off the Carron this season came off Cornhill on the 17th of February, it was caught by Allan Donaldson in the Raven. To my knowledge it is the only salmon caught on the Carron so far. The only other river in the Kyle of Sutherland catchment to have caught fish is the Shin. They have had 2.
This week started with a mild front coming through. The river rose to 4ft on Monday, unfortunately, because of the snow melt the water temperature only briefly rose above 38f which we need for salmon to get to Braelangwell. Finlay caught a sea-trout kelt in the Morail and Paul Moran also caught one in the Boat pool. On Tuesday the river was running at 1ft 3, the beat was fished for a couple of hours but no luck yet.
