On Monday, the river rose to 4’3″, at around 4ft Chris Higham caught 2 salmon in quick succession from Kennel run. It went quiet until late afternoon when the river had dropped back to 2’3″ Chris caught 2 more in the Morail. Jonty Goodchild caught 1 in Kennel run then went to the Morail and caught 4 by 7.30pm.
On Tuesday, the river again rose to 4ft. When it dropped back Jonty caught 2, Nimrod Dix caught 1, all in the Morail. The fourth of the day was caught by J Insham in the Boat.
The river dropped off over the rest of the week but Nimrod Dix caught another 3, 2 of them on big Collie dogs and Jonty caught a 12lber in the Neck of the Morail. Paul Norman left it till the Saturday to catch 2, one in Washerwoman and 1 in Gardners
This gave us 19 salmon for the week. As well as having Braelangwell the Goodchild party had the fishing on Cornhill where they caught 12 for the week. Gruinards had 18 and Cornhill had 6. Unfortunately, we don’t know what came off the other two beats but with at least 55 salmon caught it was the best week so far.

Week of the 25th of April

Tags :

We had a spell of cold weather with snow on the ground two mornings and frost which put pay to any more fish getting over the Morail falls. On the upside, we had snow melt most days which kept the river running between 3 inches and minus 6.
We caught 3 salmon for the week. On the 27th Jerry Alexander caught 1 in the boat pool at 7lb then Prof Bill Gilmore caught an 8lber in the Scarp. On the 29th A T Elder caught a 10lber in the Washerwoman.
I know of another 5 salmon caught on Dounie but have no figures from the rest of the river.
This morning the river is running at 3ft so fingers crossed.
