Week of the 10th of April
Colin Campbell got the week underway on Tuesday with a salmon of 8lb from the Rock pool. It took a size 8 Flamethrower.
On the Thursday Peter Crawfurd caught the first 2 salmon above the Morail falls, 1 weighing 9lb from Keepers and one at 4.5lb from the Smooth pool of all places. The water temp was 43.5f. The next day we had snow on the ground first thing making the water too cold for any more fish to get over the Morail falls. This is quite often the case and sometimes it is weeks before we catch another fish up there.
On Friday Peter caught his third fish of the week from the Washerwoman on an 8 Cascade weighing 7lb. Mrs Mary Nicholson caught the second of the day from the Bank pool, again on a Cascade and it weighed 10lb. The water height was minus 5, the water temp was 43f.
The Party also had the fishing on Cornhill where they caught 1 salmon.
We do not know the total for the rest of the river but there was at least 5 more that we know of.

Update
We have caught 3 salmon so far this week. Mr Colin Campbell got us off the mark catching 1 in the Rock pool on Wednesday. Yesterday Mr Peter Crawfurd caught the first 2 above the Morail falls. He had 1 in the Smooth pool and 1 in Keepers. The water temp was just 43f first thing but was 45c the day before. The height on the gauge was minus 8″. Mr Crawfurd caught his first salmon at Braelangwell in 1958 when he was invited to fish for the day. He caught 5 in the Morail and 3 in Gardners all were fresh. He says the smallest was 8lb and the biggest was 9lb.
We are back to the cold weather and it’s snowing as i write this.

River update
Last week was probably the best week of the season so far with at least 17 springers caught on the Carron. This figure is slightly low as it doesn’t include one beat at all and is only up to Friday on another beat.

Week of the 3rd of April
The river was at 2ft on Tuesday morning, it then dropped quickly to 1ft where it stayed most of the day. By 8.30am Pat Wales had returned a 9lb springer from the Morail. Disappointingly, that was the only fish landed, although 4 more were lost.
On Thursday, we started the day with 0” on the gauge, it rose slowly all day peaking at 2’3”. Archie Godman-Dorington got off the mark with an 8lb salmon from Kennel run followed quickly by his brother, Hamish, who landed a 15lber from the same spot. Archie then went on to land 2 more from the Morail at 7lb and 13lb. The latter was at after 8pm at night. Hamish also caught a sea-trout in the Morail. This is our third this season.

Update
Yesterday evening Archie Godman-Dorrington caught a second salmon from the Morail taking his total for yesterday to three. Four springers for the day is our best day so far.
Today the river is at O”on the gauge, the water temp is 42.5f.

Thursday 7th April
The river rose steadily all day from 0″ to 2’3″. The water temp was 43f.
Two salmon were caught this morning, both from Kennel run. Archie Godman-Dorrington had one and his brother Hamish caught the other. In the afternoon Archie caught a second from the Morail.

Tuesday 5th April
The river was up to 2ft first thing Tuesday morning from minus 6″ on Monday. Encouragingly, fish were showing in the Morail. Some of the party were out before breakfast and a salmon was returned by 8.30am. Although the river stayed around the 1ft mark this was the only fish landed for the day. 4 more were lost including one, just at the net which would have been a first fish.
Gruinards landed one in Kennel run in the afternoon after one was lost in the morning.

Week of the 28th March
Sunday saw the river running at 3′ 3″ but by monday morning it was down to 3″. We caught 2, both to Mrs E Ogilvy-Wedderburn, one in Morail and one in Gardners run. Every day the river dropped to about minus 5″ then was topped up to around 0″, despite this it was Friday before we caught anything else. On Friday, the gauge was sitting at minus 5″, we caught 2, one to Olly Alston from Gardners run and one from Contractors to Oscar Hedgecoe. Both of these came from the tail of the pools. On Saturday, despite a lot of rain being forecast the gauge was reading minus 7″ when Bill Warburgh caught the fifth fish of the week, a fresh 6lber in Judges.
We hear that 2 salmon were caught on Gruinards to Don Mackay and 2 were caught on Cornhill.

We caught 2 salmon at Braelangwell yesterday, one from the tail of Gardners run and one from the tail of Contractors.
