January roundup
In January the Carron missed the flooding that devastated Deeside and brought record heights to some of the Tay system. In fact, almost as soon as the fishing season opened on the 11th of January the rain stopped and we had our first frosty spell of weather. This last week or so has brought a change and we have seen the highest water since the end of the 2015 season.
The beat was fished through around a dozen times on the opening week but just 6 or 7 kelts were caught. The water temp was over the 38f barrier that allows the fish to get upstream to Braelangwell so it was well worth a cast. After the cold snap we had an unseasonably mild spell again so an odd rod ventured out but this time hardly a Kelt was caught at Braelangwell. There were unconfirmed reports that a salmon was caught on Invercarron at the end of January but they remain unconfirmed.
Currently, the river is running at around 5ft and the water temp is at 39.5f so we could see a springer caught any day now.
