Week of the 24th May
On Monday we were washed off with the river peaking at about 7.5 feet.
Tuesday saw the river running at 3ft first thing and dropping nicely but it rose later in the day to about 4ft 9 Hamish Godman-Dorington landed 4 salmon before 9.30 from the Boat pool and Jamie Ellis also caught an 8lber from the Boat pool. Upstream, Archie Godman-Dorington caught a fine 16lber from the Morail and Tom Denman caught a 10lber also from the Morail. In the evening Peter O’Neil came over from the Oykel, he caught a 8lber from the Rock and lost a decent fish in Gardners. By this time the river was running at 4ft.
9 salmon were landed on Wednesday. With the river running at a foot it was perfect. Archie Godman-Dorington caught 4 to his rod. Two came from the Morail at 8 and 12lb, one from Gardners and one from Gardners run, all three were about 8lb. Richard Fisher and Benjamin Gibbons caught their first salmon. Richard’s came from Lower Craigs weighing 7.5lb and Benjamin’s came from Gruinards run weighing 8lb. Richard Hawke also caught an 8lber from Gruinards run. Jamie Ellis caught a 10lber from Kennel run and Hamish Godman-Dorington sea lived 10lber from the Bank.
Thursday saw a huge change in the weather from cool spring to summer. One fish was caught. Jamie Reynolds caught his first fish from the Boat pool weighing 6lb. The river was down to minus 2.
No more fish were caught on the last couple of days.
