The first week is the family week which was scorching hot with low water. The fishing stopped at the end of the week because the water temp reached 18c

The second week started off with low water but thunderstorms took the water up for three days. On the 31st George lawson and Charlie Barker caught their first salmon. Both came from the Morail with George’s at 4lb and Charlie’s 5lb. Olly Ward caught a 10lber from the morail. Lucy Bardwell went out late in the day and caught an 11lb salmon also from the Morail. Week of the 14th and 22nd of July

The Mackintosh/Aspbury week started with the BBC forecasting lots of rain which just didn’t materialise. A good number of grilse appeared in the beat but with the low water they just wouldn’t take and when we had a small rise in water one night they disappeared upstream

We did manage to catch 2 fish. Peter Aspbury caught an 8lb sea liced salmon from the neck of the Morail. He also lost a couple more fish during the week. Paul Marlhand caught a 5lber, also from the neck of the Morail.

Unfortunately, the week of the 22nd of July was blank. 2 or 3 fish were lost but also the sun put in a major appearance with temperatures reaching 26c for most of the week. When the water temperature very quickly reached 19.6c on Saturday morning we stopped fishing and left the fish alone.

Week of the 27th May

The Buckley party landed 8 salmon for their week. On Sunday the river reached 2’9″ twice so and was back to 2’9″ on Monday. 3 salmon were caught, 2 from the Morail and 1 from Frenchmans. 2 were landed on Tuesday and 1 each day for the rest of the week.

As we touched on at the start of last week the Gruinards beat opposite us was unlet but had day rods arranged. On Monday they ended up with 21 salmon for 3 rods, one lucky angler catching 15 to his rod. They ended the week with 36 or 37 salmon. Although we have not heard how many salmon have came off the two Amat beats or Invercarron we know of at least 60 salmon off the river showing the Carron’s spring run seems to be holding up.

The MacLean party were faced with about minus 16″ on the gauge when they arrived but there had been a small freshen up after some rain on Sunday. They did very well to pick up 3 salmon. One in the Rock pool and two from the neck of Millers on Collie dogs.

All was quiet until Thursday, the river came up to 7″ . They landed 5, and easily lost the same again. They were very similar fish with 2 at 8lb, 2 at 9lb and 1 at 10lb. On Friday they had 4, this time from all through the beat. On Saturday Ronnie MacDonald left it till after 6pm to catch the only fish of the day from Gardners.

Top rod was Ronnie MacDonald with 6, topped by a 10lber he will remember for a long time after a good fight in Keepers. John Ritchie caught 4, best a 14lber and the heaviest fish of the week from Lower Craigs.

Earlier today the river was running at 4’6″ so we should be in for a good week.

The week of the 6th of May produced 4 salmon including a fine 39 inch fish Caught by the host, Nick Jupp estimated at 23.5lb from the Bank pool. With minus 11″ on the gauge, this is quite remarkable because the river is so low. Nick also caught a 10lber from the tail of the Morail with just minus 7″ on the gauge. Rick Verbeeten caught a 8lber from Burnmouth and Alan Lutman had a 10lber from the neck of the Morail.

This last week was unfortunately blank at Braelangwell. We were back to hot weather and about minus 15″ on the gauge. We desperately need some rain.
